We are a NICA team with one mission: to empower youth to become the best version of themselves—on and off the bike. Florida may be known for its beaches, but just beyond the shoreline are amazing off-road trails that inspire adventure, challenge limits, and bring people together. Whether you’re a beginner or a competitive cyclist, you’ll find a place to grow, connect, and thrive in our community.
We Are NICA
The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) is more than just our governing body—it’s a movement dedicated to getting more kids on bikes and helping them grow into the best versions of themselves.
We believe in the power of cycling to build strong minds, strong bodies, strong character, and strong communities. Our vision is that every young person feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to be part of a thriving cycling community.
At the heart of NICA are the values that guide everything we do: the fun of friendship, joy, and adventure; inclusivity so everyone can belong; equity that ensures fair opportunities for all; respect for others, ourselves, and the outdoors; and a sense of community that unites families and riders from all walks of life.
Together, we’re not just riding bikes—we’re building a future where every youth can discover their potential, both on and off the trail.
Our Team
Tarpon Coast Composite welcomes all students in grades 6–12 across the Southwest Florida region. As a composite team, we’re open to riders from any school or district—our doors are wide open to anyone ready to ride, learn, and grow.
We launched our first official season in the 2020–2021 with the Florida Interscholastic Cycling League. From day one, our top priority has been providing a safe and supportive environment for every athlete. We follow NICA’s strict 2 coaches for every 8 athletes policy, and all of our coaches are fully licensed through NICA, background-checked, and trained to deliver a high-quality, safety-focused program.
Tarpon Coast Composite was founded by Julie and Ian Lang, whose move to Florida was inspired by years of involvement in a large NICA team and association in Wisconsin. Their son rode with the team for several seasons —making this a true family passion project.
The team is led by a group of dedicated volunteers with a deep passion for helping kids build confidence and develop skills on the trail. With expert training and resources, they lead with confidence, build healthy cycling communities, and change lives — one ride at a time..
We’re proud to collaborate with local cycling organizations to grow our team and strengthen our volunteer coaching staff. At Tarpon Coast Composite, no one sits the bench—every rider participates, learns, and progresses. Our mission is to help youth connect with the outdoors, develop lifelong healthy habits, and build a strong community where mountain biking and youth development go hand in hand.
We can’t wait to ride with you—see you on the trail!
