Who Can Join
- Students in grades 6–12 from Southwest Florida
- No experience necessary — beginners welcome!
- Boys and girls
- Open to traditional school, private school, virtual school, and homeschool students
What We Do
Yes — mountain biking in Florida is a thing! We ride off-road, singletrack dirt trails in beautiful local parks.
You’ll:
- Learn proper riding skills and techniques
- Practice and race under NICA rules (racing is optional)
- Train with licensed, background-checked coaches
- Ride safely — helmets required at all times
- Have a safe, well-maintained mountain bike (26–29″ wheels, knobby tires at least 1.75″ wide)
- Enjoy fun, adventure, and good stewardship of the outdoors
When We Ride
- Season: December–May
- Practices: 2–3 times per week — choose the days/times that work for you
- Weekday evenings & some weekend mornings
- Races/Events: 5 total between February and May
Where We Ride
- Practices in Charlotte County, Southern Sarasota County, and Lee County parks (details provided after registration)
- Races/events held throughout Florida
How to Join
- Try it for FREE — join one practice with a signed parent waiver.
- Register — complete both steps below:
Step 1: Tarpon Coast Composite Registration – $185
Covers:
- Coach licensing & safety training
- Practice equipment
- Race day athlete nutrition
- Pit Zone area equipment & supplies
- First aid training, kits, and communication devices
- Team picnic
- Team management and race jersey
- Misc. coach travel expenses
- USA Cycling & extra insurance
- Loaner bike program
Parent/guardian and rider must review and acknowledge our Sportsmanship & Conduct Standards and Riding Policies.
Step 2: NICA Registration – $355
Once you register with the team, we’ll invite you to the NICA Pit Zone to complete:
- Waivers & agreements
- Rider information
Fee covers:
- Florida Interscholastic Cycling League (FICL) experience
- 5 races + 1 adventure weekend
- NICA insurance coverage
- Team rides & events with certified coaches
- Specialized programs: GRiT, Teen Trail Corps, Adventure Program
- Professional coach education and training
- A safe, high-quality youth sports environment
- Sponsor discounts & special offers
Both steps must be completed before a rider can participate in team practices.
